November 5, 2005, Terre Haute, Ind. - The Tigers scored on the game's first play and never trailed in a 60-21 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win at Rose-Hulman.

DePauw improved to 7-1 overall with its seventh straight win and finished SCAC play at 5-0 for at least a share of its first SCAC title since it was tri-champions in 2000. Rose-Hulman dropped to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in the SCAC.

The Tigers' 60 points established a modern day school record and were the most by a DePauw team since the Tigers defeated Franklin 74-0 on November 4, 1939 and was the second most by and SCAC team in a conference game.

DePauw's Curran Clark intercepted Rose-Hulman quarterback Cameron Hummel on the first play of the game, returned it 29 yards for a score and Tyler Mallory booted the first of a school-record tying seven extra points to give DePauw a 7-0 lead just 18 seconds into the contest. Just 56 seconds later, Hummel rambled 66 yards for a score and Jeremy Sharp's point-after made it 7-7.

The Tigers started the ensuing drive on the Rose-Hulman 10 after Ryan Shatto recovered an onside kick. Six plays later Jeremiah Marks scored on a 1-yard run (photo above) to make it 14-7 with 12:25 left in the first. The score was Marks' 13th rushing touchdown of the season which broke the DePauw single-season record of 12 set by Bart Simpson in 1973.

The Engineers' Charlie Key fumbled on Rose-Hulman's first play of the next series and the Tigers recovered at the Rose-Hulman 22. On the Tigers' first play, wide receiver Brian Culp tossed a 22-yard scoring pass to quarterback Ross Wiethoff to make it 21-7 with 12:07 remaining in the first.

Marks made it 28-7 with a 5-yard run with 6:54 left in the first and then scored on another 5-yard run with 6:37 remaining in the half to make it 34-7. Mallory booted a 28-yard field goal with 11 seconds left in the half to push the lead to 37-7.

Rose-Hulman scored on its first series of the second half as Hummel ran 44 yards to cut the margin to 37-14 with 10:54 left in the third. Jason Murphy scored on an 11-yard run on DePauw's next drive to extend the lead to 44-14 with 6:57 remaining in the third.

Dorrius Ford's 5-yard run with 2:56 remaining in the quarter made it 51-14 before Key scored on a 1-yard run with 10:10 left in the game. Following another unsuccessful onside kick, the Tigers took over at the Rose-Hulman 46. On the second play from scrimmage, Daniel Stauffer scampered 45 yards to push the DePauw lead to 58-21 with 9:12 left. Jesse Brutkiewicz then sacked Hummel in the end zone for a safety with 8:18 remaining to end the scoring.

The Tigers outgained Rose-Hulman 483-314 including a 357-211 advantage on the ground. Marks paced the Tigers with 162 yards on 25 attempts with three touchdowns for a school-record tying sixth 100-yard game of the season and the 10th of his career in 17 games. Stauffer finished with 67 yards with Murphy adding 67 and Wiethoff 49. Hummel led Rose-Hulman with 179 yards in 15 attempts with two scores.

Wiethoff completed 9 of 17 passes for 104 yards with Culp hauling in five for 52 yards. Wiethoff caught the only touchdown pass of the game. Hummel connected on 12 of 20 for the Engineers with three going to Key for 26 yards.

Darren Lasley led the DePauw defense with six tackles including an 8-yard sack, while Eric Lewis, Greg Sylvester and Aaron Key each had five. The Tigers intercepted three passes with Clark, Andrew Huff and Ryan Shatto each totaling one.

Tim Wilson led the Engineers with 13 tackles followed by Nick Klaseerner and Paul Spreen with 11 each. Bryce Beckstrom recorded Rose-Hulman's only interception on the afternoon.

DePauw concludes the regular season on Saturday, November 12, when it hosts 9-0 Wabash in the annual Monon Bell game. Kickoff for the 112th overall meeting and the 74th for possession of the Monon Bell is set for 1:07 p.m. The all-time series is tied at 51-51-9 with DePauw holding a slim 35-32-6 edge in games played for the coveted trophy.
