November 5, 2005, Evansville, Ind. - DePauw jumped out to a 45-36 halftime lead at Division I Evansville behind 17 points from junior
Reid Sakel, but the host Purple Aces rallied for a 76-67 exhibition win at Roberts Stadium.
The Tigers knocked down 12 of 20 three-point attempts in the first half and extended their lead to as many as 10 at 48-38 before Evansville rattled off 17 straight points. DePauw closed to within two in the closing minutes, but the Aces knocked down key free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Sakel finished with a game-high 22 points, while
Brian Oilar added 12 along with a team-high nine rebounds. Bradley Strickland led Evansville with 20 points and 12 rebounds with Jason Holsinger adding 13 points and Craig Phifer 10.
DePauw shot 32.4 percent from the floor, but nailed 15 three-pointers. Evansville connected on 41.9 percent and held a narrow 46-43 advantage on the boards.
The Tigers open the regular season on November 18 when they face Ohio Northern in Albion's tipoff tournament.
