Atlanta, Ga. - The Tigers trailed by 21 points with two events remaining, but finished first, second, fourth and fifth in the 5,000-meter run to take a 173-167 lead on the way to a 178-177 margin over Centre at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Georgia Tech. Centre won the final event, the 4 x 400-meter relay, but the Tigers placed fourth and took the one-point win.
Graham Wellman won the 5,000 meters in 15:34.53, while Simon Flory was second in 15:38.72. Peter Hogg placed fourth in 15:55.48 and Ben Stallsworth was fifth in 15:58.57. DePauw took the first three spots in the 10,000 meters with Wellman winning in 33:15.51 followed by Jared Mann in 33:23.27 and Stallsworth in 33:31.36.
Flory won the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the fourth straight year after finishing in 9:47.66. Hogg won the 1,500 meters in 4:05.05, while Felix Felder took first in the long jump at 6.46 meters.
The 4 x 100 relay of Felder, Nipun Chopra, Pablo Felix and David Araiza finished second in 43.10 seconds, while Jeb Ballard tied for second in the high jump at 1.88 meters. Mastin Jones placed second in the shot put at 13.42 meters and Mike Morris was second in the pole vault at 4.25 meters. Keith Marshall finished third in the 800 meters in 1:57.63 as did Matthew Berhensmeyer in the steeplechase in 10:03.24.
The top three finishers in each event earn all-SCAC honors.
