Greencastle, Ind. - The Tigers were just one strike away from picking up a win in the first game of their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with visiting Rose-Hulman. The Engineers, however, tied the game with a two-run double and won it in extra innings by an 8-4 count. They then completed the sweep with a 15-1 victory in the nightcap.

DePauw dropped to 12-21 overall and 3-7 in the SCAC, while Rose-Hulman improved to 19-15 overall and 7-3 in the SCAC. With the sweep, Rose-Hulman earned a spot in the six-team SCAC tournament which starts next week in Atlanta.

In the opening game, the Engineers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first when Janae Chaney and Sarah Bireley led off with singles. Lynsey Hart followed with a single to right that scored Chaney. Hart advanced to second on an errant throw back to the infield. Bireley then scored on a passed ball.

DePauw tied it in the fifth as Caroline Provan led off with a single and moved to second on Angela Keslin's sacrifice bunt. Jessica Bowlds then singled up the middle and advanced to second on the throw. Carli Worthman singled to left to score Provan and Bowlds.

The Tigers took the lead in the sixth when Kristy Mahon drew a one-out walk and moved to second on Ashley Sewell's single. Provan singled to score Mahon and Bowlds later singled to plate Sewell and make it 4-2.

Rose-Hulman tied the game in the seventh as Amanda Bower ripped a two-out, two-run double that scored Hart and Bireley. In the eighth, Laura Telezyn reached on an error with one out and Amy Viles followed with a single. Chaney reached on a fielder's choice that forced Telezyn at third before Bireley singled home Viles. Hart tripled to center to score Bireley and Chaney and then scored when Bower reached on an error.

Bower and Lauren Clark each had three of Rose-Hulman's 14 hits, while Chaney, Bireley and Hart had two apiece. Sewell, Provan and Bowlds each had a pair of DePauw's seven hits. Clark improved to 11-9 with the win, while Lauren Curosh dropped to 6-10. Seven of the Engineers' runs were unearned as the Tigers committed four errors.

In the nightcap, the Engineers scored six in the second and nine in the fourth and DePauw committed six errors with three in each of those two innings. All 15 of Rose-Hulman's runs were unearned and all came with two outs.

Clark led off the second with a one-out single before Amber Hoke reached on an error. Telezyn reached on a fielder's choice that forced Clark at third. Viles loaded the bases with a single. Chaney followed with a single to score Hoke before Bireley and Hart each reached on errors to make it 4-0. Bower and Clark then added RBI singles.

Chaney reached on an error to lead off the fourth, but was forced at second. Hart was hit by a pitch and Clark hit a two-run, two-out double. Sanders' infield single and Hoke's walk loaded the bases. Telezyn reached on an infield hit and moved to second on a throwing error with Clark and Sanders scoring on the play to make it 10-0.

Viles put down a bunt for a hit and Chaney followed with an RBI single. Bireley drew a bases loaded walk and Hart delivered a two-run single. The Engineers scored their final run on a DePauw infield error.

DePauw scored its lone run in the fifth as Provan reached base on an error and moved to second on Hillary Enyart's single that broke up Jennifer Shafer's no-hitter. Worthman singled with two outs to score Provan.

Clark collected three of the Engineers' 11 hits with Chaney and Viles each adding two. Shafer improved to 8-6 on the season with the two-hitter, while Enyart dropped to 5-8.

The teams conclude SCAC regular season play with a doubleheader at DePauw on Friday. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
