Box Score 2 Danville, Ky. - DePauw won the first game of its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Centre by a 4-2 score, but the Colonels scored twice in the bottom of the seventh of the nightcap to take a 5-4 win over the Tigers. DePauw is now 12-19 overall and 3-5 in the SCAC Eastern Division, while Centre is 15-13 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opening game after Nicole Kernan reached on an error, was advanced to second with Annie Morgan's bunt and scored when Laura Schlensker reached on an error in the Colonels outfield. Centre tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on Leah Tuft's RBI single.
Carli Worthman led off the DePauw third with a single and Kernan followed with a walk before Morgan again moved the runners over with a bunt. Kristy Mahon then singled home Worthman and gave the Tigers a 2-1 advantage. The Tigers made it 4-1 in the fifth when Schlensker singled and Ashley Sewell followed with a triple. Caroline Provan's groundout scored Sewell. The Colonels added a run in the sixth when Marjorie Pilkinton led off with a homer.
Seven different Tigers collected one hit apiece, while Macy Dykema had two hits for Centre. Lauren Curosh improved to 6-9 with the win while striking out six and walking just one. Erin Grumley suffered the loss.
DePauw fell behind 2-0 in the first inning of the nightcap as Tufts drove in two with a two-out single. The Tigers scored one in the third when Sewell doubled to score Mahon. The Colonels extened the lead to 3-1 in the sixth when Jessica Chisley led off with a homer.
The Tigers rallied in the seventh to take a 4-3 lead as Schlensker hit a one-out double. Provan and Jessica Bowlds followed with two-out doubles before Worthman singled home Bowlds. Angie Bohnen was hit by a pitch to lead off the Centre seventh and Chisley reached on a hit by pitch with one out. Terra Caudill doubled home Bohnen and the Colonels scored the game winner when Holly Phillips singled home Chisley.
Kernan, Schlensker, Hillary Enyart and Worthman each had two of DePauw's 13 hits. Chisley and Phillips each had a pair of Centre's seven hits. Enyart dropped to 5-7 with the loss, while Erin Grumley picked up the win in relief.
The Tigers travel to Franklin for a doubleheader on April 13.
