DePauw totaled 506 yards of offense including 239 on the ground on the way to a 39-20 win at 15th-ranked Hanover. The victory lifts DePauw to 2-1 overall, while Hanover dropped to 2-1. Hanover's loss snapped their 14-game regular season win streak. The win was DePauw's first over Hanover since 1996 and the first at Hanover since 1992.

The Tigers wasted little time in getting on the board as Jamarcus Shephard returned the opening kickoff 88 yards to the Hanover 2. Two plays later Jackson Rust ran it in for the score. The point-after attempt was off the mark and DePauw held a 6-0 lead just 30 seconds into the contest.

On its third series, DePauw opened with a 75-yard reverse pass from Shephard to Adam Sisson to make it 12-0 with 6:41 remaining in the first. Following a defensive stand, DePauw took over on its own 32. Five straight runs, including three for 33 yards by Matt King, moved the ball to the Hanover 20 before Andy Yoder tossed his first scoring pass of the season with a 20-yard completion to Sisson. John Wallace's extra point pushed the DePauw lead to 19-0 with 2:22 left in the first.

Late in the first, DePauw's Andrew Whitelaw recovered a fumbled Hanover punt return at the Hanover 26. From there, the Tigers needed just four plays with quarterback Ross Wiethoff covering the final nine on the ground. A blocked extra point left the score at 25-0 with 13:53 remaining in the second. DePauw outgained Hanover 204-71 in the first quarter.

Hanover got on the board with a 14-play, 91-yard drive capped by Brett Dietz's 13-yard scoring pass to Stephen Lyons to make it 25-7 with 8:03 left in the half.

DePauw countered, however, with a nine-play, 88-yard series ending in Yoder's 34-yard touchdown pass to Brian Culp. Wallace made it 32-7 with the extra point with 3:37 remaining in the half. After a scoreless third, Wiethoff teamed with Culp for a 25-yard score to give the Tigers their biggest lead at 39-7 with 5:31 left.

Dietz came back into the game to direct two Hanover scoring drives in the closing five minutes. He tossed an 8-yard pass to Clint Bobb and a 16-yard strike to Nick Schmidt to round out the scoring.

"Beginning with the opening kickoff return, we came ready to play today," DePauw head coach Nick Mourouzis said.

"All three phases of our game were ready in an all-out, intense effort. I was proud of our effort for all 60 minutes."

King paced DePauw with 101 rushing yards on 20 carries, while Rust added 64 on 15 attempts. The Tigers finished with 239 yards on the ground in 59 attempts. Yoder completed 10 of 16 passes for 152 yards and two scores. Culp finished with five catches for 99 yards with Sisson totaling 101 yards on three catches. Shephard caught three for 52 yards, completed one pass for a 75-yard score, rushed once for six yards and returned two kickoffs for a total of 95 yards.

Dietz completed 32 of 56 passes for 324 yards and led the Panthers with 44 rushing yards. Bobb caught eight passes for 78 yards, while Lyon and John Spurlock each caught six.

Defensively, DePauw's Jeremy Legge totaled eight tackles with Obinna Ugokwe, Chris Lambring and David Blackburn each recording six. Michael Creeden paced Hanover with 13 stops, followed by Tad Brittingham with 11 and Nathan Moore and Scott Power with 10 each.

Lambring and Mike Laszynski, who saw his first action since the ninth game of the 2002 season, each recorded interceptions for the Tigers who finished with no turnovers on offense and came away with three Hanover turnovers. DePauw converted 12 of 21 third down conversions after just 10 of 28 through the first two weeks.

DePauw travels to San Antonio on Saturday, September 27, for a showdown with 10-time defending SCAC champion and 2002 Division III runner-up Trinity. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
