Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw shot 60 percent from the floor and hit 13 of 24 three-pointers on the way to a 98-63 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over visiting Hendrix.
DePauw stayed in first in the SCAC with a 10-1 conference record with its sixth straight win and improved to 15-6 overall. The Tigers have won 12 of their last 13 contests after starting the season with a 3-5 record. Hendrix fell to 5-15 overall and 1-10 in the SCAC. The win also moved DePauw coach Bill Fenlon's career coaching record at the school to 182-97 in 11 seasons and the 182 wins ties the school record held by Elmer McCall (1958-78).
The Tigers trailed by as many as five at 14-9 in the first four minutes of the contest, but scored the next nine points and 21 of the next 23 and never relinquished the lead. They held a 44-25 halftime lead and led by as many as 40 in the second half.
Joe Ringger led five DePauw double-figure scorers with 23 points and also hauled down a game-high seven rebounds. Jon Owens added 15 followed by Alex Stewart with 14, Jeremy Bettis with 11 and Wes Thornhill with 10. Joey Hanger scored nine and recorded career highs of six assists and four steals.
Dennis Hunt came off the bench to score 14 for the Warriors, while Reggie Talley added 12 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Owens, Stewart and Hanger each knocked down three three-pointers as seven different players hit treys in the victory. Stewart improved his SCAC-leading three-point percentage to 50.6 percent and his mark in SCAC games to 62.5 percent with a three-of-four performance.
The game marked the final regular season home contest for DePauw seniors Bettis, Ringger and Todd Humerickhouse. The three have been part of teams that have now posted a 75-24 record including a 37-6 home record and a 50-15 mark in SCAC games. DePauw travels to Rose-Hulman on Thursday for an 8 p.m. game.
