Jackson, Miss. - The Tigers never trailed, but had to survive several Millsaps runs to come away with a 71-65 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road victory.

The win lifted DePauw's overall record to 13-6 and was the Tigers' 10th win in the last 11 games. The Tigers are now 8-1 in SCAC play and remain in first place. Millsaps slipped to 12-7 overall and 5-4 in the SCAC. The Tigers have won eight straight SCAC road games dating back to last season.

DePauw led at the break, 40-29, but the host Majors quickly closed the gap with an 11-2 run over the opening six minutes of the second half. The Tigers held the advantage until Cloyd Garth finished a three-point play with 4:31 left to tie the game at 56-56.

Jeremy Bettis' basket with 4:16 left gave the Tigers a two-point lead, but Garth hit one of two free throws with 4:03 left to cut the gap to one. Three-pointers on back-to-back possessions by Joey Hanger and Alex Stewart pushed the DePauw lead to 64-57 with just under three minutes left.

Garth hit two free throws and McKenzie Lash scored a basket to make it 64-61 with 2:26 remaining. Bettis and Lash exchanged baskets and Joe Ringger's free throw with 1:14 extended the Tigers' lead to 67-63. Garth's basket with 18 seconds remaining closed the margin to 67-65.

Wes Thornhill hit one of two charity tosses with 17 seconds left, but the Tigers grabbed the offensive rebound and Jon Owens hit one of two free throws to push the lead to 69-65 with 13.6 seconds remaining. Millsaps missed a shot on the other end and Owens knocked down two free throws with three-tenths of a second left to seal the win.

Bettis, who finished with a team-high 19 points and nine rebounds, became the 20th player in DePauw men's history to score 1,000 career points. Ringger posted his third straight double-double and 10th of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Stewart added 10 points and Robert Davis dished out five assists.
