DePauw improved to 2-2 on the season with a 85-63 win over visiting Wabash (1-4) in the final game of the Mike Rokicki Community versus Cancer Challenge. Rose-Hulman improved to 3-1 with a 76-68 win over Earlham in Sunday's first game.
Five DePauw players scored in double figures led by Alex Stewart with 16 and Reid Sakel with 15 off the bench. Derek Lawrence followed with 13 with Aaron Drake adding 12 and Jon Owens 10. Alex Rinks paced Wabash with 11.
The Tigers trailed just once at 3-1 before going on a 13-1 run on the way to a 38-22 halftime lead. The Tigers led by as many as 22 points in the first half after shooting 56 percent from the floor and holding Wabash to 26 percent.
Wabash closed the gap to 38-26 by scoring the first four points of the second half, but DePauw put together a 17-2 stretch and put the game away as it led 55-28 lead with 12:49 remaining.
The Tigers shot 56 percent for the game and held Wabash to only 34 percent. The Tigers held a 42-35 advantage on the boards with Drake and Lawrence each hauling down seven. Kyle Coffey had six rebounds for the Little Giants. The teams face each other again on Wednesday in Crawfordsville.
In the day's first game, four Rose-Hulman players reached double digits led by Munchie Muskeyvalley with 21 and Phillip Griffith with 20. Kareem Lee posted a double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds, while Jason Ludwig chipped in with 11 points. Markous Jewett led Earlham with 18 followed by Brandon Miller with 14, Jermaine Crumby with 11 and LaRon Henry with 10.
Rose-Hulman held a commanding 48-26 advantage on the boards and grabbed 23 on the offensive glass. The Engineers shot 42 percent from the field, while Earlham connected on just 35 percent.
