Tigers move into sole possession of first in SCAC

Greencastle, Ind. - Seniors Jeremy Bettis and Joe Ringger each posted double-doubles to lead DePauw to a 76-61 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over visiting Centre.

The victory lifted DePauw's overall record to 11-6 and its SCAC mark to 6-1 which is good for sole possession of first place. Centre dropped to 10-6 overall and 5-2 in the SCAC.

Bettis equaled a career-high with 25 points and added 10 rebounds, while Ringger scored 21 and matched a season best with 15 rebounds in the win.

DePauw led by as many as 16 in the first half before the Colonels closed the gap to 40-31 at halftime. Centre got as close as six at one point early in the second half and were still within nine at 53-44 after Chris Smith's layup with 11:32 remaining.

A layup by Matt Kleymeyer and a pair of buckets from Betts capped a 6-0 run that lifted the Tigers to a 59-44 advantage. That lead reached as many as 17 in the second half.

Jason Atwell paced Centre with 23, while Dane Russell posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Rob King added 11 points and eight boards.

The Tigers outrebounded Centre 46-37 and held the Colonels to just 31.8 percent shooting from the field.

DePauw returns to action at Oglethorpe on Friday, January 31 at 8 p.m., while Centre hosts Thomas More on Wednesday, January 29, at 7:30 p.m.
