Box Score Jackson, Miss. - Trinity jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed on the way to a 7-1 win over DePauw in the first day of play in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. DePauw, which fell to 12-23-1 on the season, plays Sewanee in a loser's bracket game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Trinity, 25-14, plays Millsaps in the winner's bracket title game.
Caroline Simone singled with one out in the first and Shannon George walked before Ali Woods delivered an RBI single. Stephanie Dooley followed with a run-scoring single and Jessica Stewart added an RBI single later in the frame.
Jo Schumacher drew a one-out walk off of DePauw starter Darcy Vannatta in the fourth and moved to second on a wild pitch. After moving to third on a ground out, she scored on Simone's single.
Kylie Moord's two-out single in the fifth moved Nicole Johnson to third. Hilary Enyart followed with a single to center to score Johnson. The Tigers then loaded the bases, but Keri Shake fouled out to the catcher.
The Tigers had runners on first and second with one out in the sixth, but Vicky Sharp was picked off of second and Johnson popped up to the first baseman.
Trinity added three more in the sixth after Simone doubled to center to score three.
Simone collected three hits and drove in four in the win, while Woods and Schumacher each had two hits. Andrea Clark paced DePauw with a pair of hits. The Tigers left eight runners on base in the loss.
Jessica Stewart improved to 9-6 on the season, while Vannatta slipped to 10-13.
