Late goal sends Tigers to 2-1 win over Wabash

September 20, 2001

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Tigers improved to 4-2 on the season with a 2-1 win over visiting Wabash, but it took a goal in the final four minutes for the Tigers to claim the victory. Wabash slipped to 2-3 with the loss.

Richie Schreiner's header off of Andy Cohen's corner with 3:42 left in the game broke a 1-1 tie and the Tigers held on in the closing minutes for their second straight win. Wabash keeper Graham Bailey made what appeared to be a save, but the ball had cleared the line.

Schreiner put the Tigers on the board early in the first half with an unassisted goal at the 7:49 mark. The Tigers outshot the Little Giants in the first half 8-4.

The Little Giants knotted the contest in the second half as they beat the DePauw defenders and Carlos Aguirre found Adam Reisig at 72:06 to make it 1-1.

"Wabash came in and had a really good plan to take away our possession game," DePauw head coach Page Cotton said.

Wabash played DePauw even in the second half in terms of shots as each team totaled 11.

"They became more aggressive and we became more passive," Cotton added.

"We did figure out a way to win the game, but I didn't think we came ready to play today."

The Tigers host Illinois Wesleyan on Sunday at 3 p.m.
