TIGERS SWEEP WEEKEND SERIES WITH CENTRE

Junior pitcher Darcy Vannatta pitched a one-hitter in the first game of the four-game set with Centre and picked up two wins.

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Tiger softball team swept Centre in a four-game series over the weekend to run their win streak to eight straight and keep pace in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference East Division standings.

On Saturday, DePauw scored five in the first on the way to an 8-0, five-inning , win over the Colonels. Kristyn Tekulve and Lauri Kinkel each had two hits for the Tigers while Darcy Vannatta allowed just one hit, a fifth-inning single, in running her record to 3-2.

In the nightcap, the Tigers watched a 5-2 lead disappear into a 7-5 deficit as the Colonels score three in the fourth and two in the sixth. However, DePauw rallied with four in the bottom of the sixth to take the 9-7 win.

Kylie Moord's three-run double pushed the Tigers ahead of Centre in the sixth. Mychelle Coon picked up her second win in as many decisions and helped her own cause with two hits. Jamie Anderson and Leslie Oesterle also had a pair of hits for the Tigers.

The Tigers needed another late rally in Sunday's first game as Centre broke open a 2-2 tie with four runs in the top of the seventh. This time it was Tekulve's two-run triple that scored Andrea Clark and Coon to end the game in DePauw's favor, 7-6. Tekulve pounded out three hits, while Coon and Oesterle each added a pair. Vannatta improved to 4-2 on the season with the victory.

Kylie Moord's three-run double in the sixth pushed the Tigers ahead of Centre in the second game of the series.

In the final game of the series, DePauw scored eight runs in the first and seven in he fifth on the way o a 17-9 win over the Colonels. Coon started and went three innings to pick up her third win, while Chanda Najdek, Tekulve, Keri Shake, Oesterle, Rachel Starke and Nicole Johnson each had two hits in the 14-hit attack.

DePauw takes its 8-4 overall record and 8-2 SCAC mark into a Wednesday home doubleheader with East Division leader Rose-Hulman (12-9, 8-0). First pitch is at 3 p.m.
