Tiger Men Nab First ICAC Win; Hooker Scores Game Winner

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw junior Ryan Hooker scored his team's final seven points including the game-winning shot with just four seconds left to lift the Tigers to a 66-64 win over Anderson University. Anderson's Matt Grieser was whistled for an offensive foul with one second left and the Tigers ran off the final second for the win. With the victory, DePauw improves to 11- 3 on the season and 1-1 in the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference, while Anderson falls to 10-3 and 0-2 in the ICAC.

The Ravens led most of the first half and scored nine straight in the early part of the s econd half to take as much as a 12-point lead on a couple of occasions. Trailing 48-36 with 11:46 left, the Tigers scored nine straight to cut the margin to three. Anderson increased the lead back to six at 51-45, but the Old Gold scored seven straight with the final three coming on a three-pointer from freshman Jess McKinney to take a 52-51 lead with 8:21 remaining.

The Tigers posted their biggest lead of the game at 58-54 after McKinney buried a jumper with 5:28 left. Grieser's two free throws with 2:06 remaining gave Anderson a 62-61 advantage before Hooker nailed a three-pointer with 1:37 left to put the Tigers ahead, 64-62. Anderson's Neil Jenner then tied the score at 64-64 at the 1:15 mark.

DePauw's Matt Gorrell missed a shot with 54 seconds left and Grieser missed with 46 seconds remaining to give the Tigers the ball. With the shot clock running down, Hooker put up a three-pointer with 12 seconds left which was off the mark and went out-of-bounds off an Anderson player. The Tigers then got the ball to Hooker for the game winner.

Hooker led all scorers with 23, while Jason Kreag dished out six assists for DePauw. Noel Nitecki led Anderson with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Craig Brunnemer scored 16 and Neil Jenner 12.

The Tigers host Manchester on Saturday, January 13 at 3 p.m., while Anderson hosts Wabash at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
