Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw wrapped up the home portion of its schedule with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 26-24) North Coast Athletic Conference loss to Wittenberg. The host Tigers dropped to 14-9 overall and 5-2 in the NCAC, while the guests improved to 13-7 overall and 6-0 in conference play.
DePauw got out to a 3-1 lead in the opening set, but Wittenberg scored the next five to gain the lead. Wittenberg led by as many as eight points at 18-10, but DePauw put together an 11-3 run to tie the score at 21-21. A DePauw service error followed by a kill from Katie Hiestand and two from Aubrey Cox ended the set.
In the second set, Wittenberg scored seven straight points to grab a 10-3 lead. The Tigers got as close as two at 19-17, but Wittenberg scored the next three and four of the next five.
Wittenberg jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the third set before the Tigers started chipping away and eventually tying the score at 14-14. The lead went back and forth with DePauw holding a 23-22 advantage. Wittenberg scored the next two before Morgan Stearley's kill evened the count at 24-24. The visiting Tigers, however, scored the final two to secure the win.
Wittenberg outhit the host Tigers, .121-.051 and held a 42-29 edge in kills.
Stearley paced the Tigers with 10 kills, while Liv Hartman added nine. Grave Filbrun recorded 17 assistes, whle Jenna Purichia led with 19 digs. The Tigers totaled eight blocks, led by Stearley's five block assists.
Katie Hiestand led Wittenberg with 12 kills, while Sarah Auble and Ashley Brooks each had 16 assists. Taylor Yontz paced the squad with 17 digs with Cox totaling five block assists and Paige Kucinic finishing with two block solos and two block assists.
DePauw travels to Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday, October 26, for the final NCAC regular season match of the year before taking on Case Western Reserve immediately following the 1 p.m. match.
