Sept. 6, 2019 (Newport News, Va.)- The DePauw University field hockey team fell 3-1 to No.16 Christopher Newport University Captains in the first of two, weekend road matches.
During the first quarter, the Tigers attempts to slow the pace of the game in its favor with penalty corners was shut down by the Captain's defensive line.
DePauw came out aggressively in the second quarter, earning quick back to back corners, getting better looks at the goal. Though DePauw got deeper into the striking circle, the Tigers were not able to capitalize.
Down 3-0 at the beginning of the second half DePauw increased its pressure and containment gradually pushing the ball up the field into the Captain's end.
Though down by two DePauw's Allie Duranceau kept the Tigers in striking distance, recording a total of 16 saves throughout the match. Despite its best efforts, DePauw was unable to string together more attempts on goal.
The Tigers (1-2) remain in Virginia to play the University of Mary Washington Eagles. Game time is set for 1 p.m on Saturday, Sept. 7.
