Tigers Sweep Allegheny to Start NCAC Play

The DePauw volleyball team swept Allegheny 3-0 in three sets, 25-15, 25-16, 25-22, to open up North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday in a match that lasted just over an hour.

Elisabeth Wilson recorded 11 kills in the win, and Suzanne Peters and Gabi Allread added seven each. Kaylee Nichols and Rachael Lenderman both led the team with 12 digs.

DePauw took control in the first set breaking a 10-10 stalemate with eight consecutive points with Lenderman serving. That set the pace for the remainder of the set, which ended with a kill from Haley Bitzer.

In the second set, the two teams again sat even at 10-10, but three straight kills from Peters helped the Tigers distance themselves from Allegheny midway through. The Tigers made it 18-11 in the set before taking it 25-16.

In the third set, DePauw led 21-17 before Allegheny closed the gap at 21-20. However, a DePauw timeout got the Tigers back on track to close the set at 25-22.

DePauw improved to 11-3 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC, while Allegheny drops to 8-7 overall and 0-1 in the conference. DePauw is back in action Sunday when they host Hiram.
