Greencastle, Ind. – The 26th ranked (DIII) Tigers couldn't pull off a win against the 11th ranked team in the NAIA on Wednesday, falling to Indiana Wesleyan 6-3.
DePauw had a slight advantage in doubles play with everyone's cards showing the Tigers up 5-4 midway through. However, only the No. 2 doubles team of Alyssa Seneviratne and Meredith Breda held strong at 8-6.
The No. 1 doubles team of Maddie Lee and Gretchen Wilder lost the final three games of their match to lose 8-6. The same thing happened at No. 3 doubles with Megan Galle and Sarah Wilder, who lost 9-7.
In singles action, Indiana Wesleyan received three straight set wins from their ranked players in the NAIA (No. 27 Rachel Bottorff, No. 36 Lizzie Bauss, No. 43 Alex Mella).
DePauw picked up a win at No. 3 singles thanks to Colleen Morris, who defeated Marissa Klein 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. At No. 5 singles, Seneviratne won a 10-game pro set after splitting the first two sets 7-5, 4-6, 10-7.
Lastly, Breda fell at No. 6 singles 7-5, 6-4.
DePauw drops to 5-3, while Indiana Wesleyan improves to 19-6. The Tigers will get some rest before they are back at it again March 24 when they host Washington (Mo.).
