Tigers Fall to Athenas

Claremont, Calif.- Claremont-Mudd-Scripps took an early lead, scoring five goals in the opening 12 minutes to take down the Tigers by a finals score of 18-6.

With the win, the Athenas improve to 8-3 on the year, while DePauw dropped to 1-3.

Claremont-M-S took control of the game from the start, led by Zoe Pinczower who scored three of the Athenas' goals in the opening minutes. DePauw finally ended the scoring drought at the 15:14 mark when Nicole Gibson scored on an unassisted shot making the score 5-1.

The Tigers and the Athenas would each score four goals to close out the half. DePauw goals were scored by Elizabeth McCracken, Abigail Snively, Taylor Summers and Emilye Denny. Maryclaire Heldring and Gibson provided first-half assists for the Tigers.

Trailing by just four after a slow start, it appeared as if the Tigers would be able to hang tough with the Athenas. However, the second half was dominated by Claremont-M-S as they outscored DePauw 9-1.

The lone DePauw goal came with just 1:43 when Summers found the net for her second goal of the game. The Tigers managed only nine shots in the second half, while the Athenas fired 17 shots.

Claremont-M-S outshot the Tigers 42-20 in the contest and held a 16-10 edge in draw controls. The Athenas had 15 ground balls to DePauw's six.

DePauw goalie, Liz Hawkins made 18 saves in a losing effort.

The Tigers are back in action today, March 27, when they take on Whittier at 6 p.m. PDT
