Greencastle, Ind. - The eighth-ranked women's golf team begins the spring portion of their schedule Saturday when they host their only meet of the season, the Katman Klassic, at the Twin Lakes Country Club in Carmel, Ind.
The women follow up their fall season after they recorded three second-place finishes and won the 9-team Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic on Sept. 27. It was a solid start with just one senior, Brooke Hasler, and five freshmen on the roster which features just nine golfers.
Freshman Rachele Miller claimed her first North Coast Athletic Conference Women's Golf Player of the Week honors during the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic. She shot a 149 to not only lead DePauw to a team victory but also a three-way tie for first place individually.
The team shot a second-round 299 and its final score of 608 was two strokes better than Indiana Tech. Scores from the match included Larisa Luloff's 152 (fifth place), Sheinnera Gergongay's 153 (eighth), Kharissa Carras's 154 (10th) and Danielle Smith's 158 (12th).
The 608 score was the lowest from the fall as they averaged a score of 638 between their five tournaments played.
Last year the No. 16 Tigers finished second at the NCAC Championships, shooting a 1321 for four rounds. Carras earned first team All-NCAC honors, and Gergongay earned second team All-NCAC honors. This year's NCAC Championships starts April 23 and ends May 1.
