Gooch Fires Opening-Round 77 to Lead Tigers to a Tie for Sixth at NCAA Championships
Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. - DePauw senior Paige Gooch shot an opening-round 77 to lead the eighth-ranked Tigers to a 328 and a tie for 6th among 21 teams at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort.
Gooch finished the first round with two birdies and 10 pars to tie for fourth among the 110 individuals.
DePauw's Alexandria Ramirez is tied for 23rd after shooting an 81, while Sheinnera Gerongay and Kenzlie Westerfield each shot 85 to tie for 47th. Kelsey Smith is 70th after shooting an opening-round 88.
Rhodes leads the team competition with a 311, followed by Methodist (321), Mary Hardin-Baylor (325), Ithaca (326), Texas @ Tyler 327. DePauw, Washington-St. Louis, and George Fox are all tied at 328. Lisa Calcasola of Ithaca shot a 75 to lead the individuals.
DePauw is making its 13th appearance in the Division III Championships all consecutive since 2002 with only Methoidist appearing in more (15). The Tigers have posted nine top-five finishes including three runner-up performances.
