Oshkosh, Wis. – No. 11 DePauw struggled to contain the multi-threat No. 13 Wisconsin-Oshkosh, falling 64-49 in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball tournament.
Right out of the gate the Tigers fell into a 9-0 hole and didn't connect on their first field goal until six minutes into the game. However, when they got going they answered with a 12-0 run, cultivating by a 3-pointer from Emily Budde.
UW-Oshkosh then managed to take a 19-14 lead at the end of the quarter, after a 10-2 run in the final 2:26. The Titans scored the first eight points of the second quarter and outscored the Tigers 19-5 to take a 38-19 lead at the half.
The deficit was too much for the Tigers to overcome. They cut four points into the lead in the third quarter, and both teams scored 12 points in the final stanza.
DePauw shot just 25 percent in the first half and ended the game at 35 percent (18-of-52). They shot 11 percent from 3-point range (2-of-19) and were 79 percent (11-of-14) from the line.
UW-Oshkosh shot nearly 50 percent from the floor in the first half and finished at 44 percent (27-of-61). They were 35 percent (7-of-20) from beyond the arc and 60 percent from the line at 3-of-5.
Budde led the Tigers with 11 points off the bench. Senior Claire Ryan scored 10 and just missed on the double-double at nine rebounds.
DePauw was outrebounded 38-31 and outscored in the paint 36-20. DePauw outscored the Titans' bench 21-20.
DePauw concludes the season at 27-3. It was their 16th straight season with at least 22 wins - the second longest active streak in Division III. They are also the seventh DePauw team to win at least 27 games in a season.
