Alma Hands DePauw Defeat on Opening Day of NCAA Regional

Alma, Mich. - Host Alma scored three in the second and six in the fourth and sent DePauw to the NCAA Regional loser's bracket with a 9-1 win over the Tigers. DePauw dropped to 23-20 and faces Otterbein in tomorrow's 1:30 p.m. elimination game. The Scots improved to 28-8 and face Illinois Wesleyan at 11 a.m. tomorrow in a winner's bracket contest. Illinois Wesleyan rallied for a 3-2 win over Otterbein in the day's first game.

Anna Couture's second-inning double scored Katie McClure before Mary Brooks reached on an error that allowed Couture and Erin Lee to cross the plate.

Brooks made it 6-0 with a bases-loaded double in the fourth before Danielle Service, McClure and Kelsey Spencer each followed with RBI singles.

The Tigers left on runner stranded in each of the first four innings before reaching the board in the fifth. Lauren Godden drove in Megan Montgomery with a single to center, but DePauw left the bases loaded and the game ended due to the eight-run rule.

DePauw totaled eight hits with Liz Getz, Abey Bass and Andi Sarkisian finishing with two each. Alma had 11 hits and were paced by Couture's three and two each from Brooks and McClure.

Brooke Bandy dropped to 6-11, while Morgan Stratton moved to 20-4 for Alma.
