DePauw Earns Split with Franklin in Home Openers

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw opened the home portion of its schedule this afternoon by hosting Franklin and the Tigers came away with a split. The Grizzlies took a 6-4 win in the opener before the Tigers came back to win the nightcap, 4-3. DePauw is now 2-8 on the season, while Franklin is 9-5.

In the first game, DePauw took a 3-0 lead in the second as Abey Bass reached on a bunt single with two outs before Mina Shaw reached on an error. Bekka Roberts came in as a pinch-hitter and delivered a two-run double to left center. Roberts went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Gabby Smart's single.

That lead held until the top of the sixth when Franklin's Taylor Johnson led off with a walk and Megan Lalioff singled. Shelby Mager and Alexis Tarver drew walks to get the Grizzlies on the board. Savannah Blevins drove in a pair with a single to tie the game at 3-3. Later in the inning, Lauren Huebler made it 4-3 with an RBI groundout.

Sidney Holler clubbed a homer off the scoreboard in left to even the count at 4-4, but Franklin came through with two in the seventh. Blevins singled home Johnson and Grace Paszek doubled in Tarver.

Liz Getz paced DePauw with three of their 10 hits, while Megan Montgomery added two. Blevins and Moninca Collins each collected two of Franklin's six hits.

Olivia Paszek improved to 6-1, while Emma Baldwin dropped to 0-2 in relief of Brooke Bandy.

In the second game, Franklin took a 2-0 lead in the third as Huebler reached on a wild pitch on strike three and moved to third when Sara Thom got aboard on an error. Lalioff moved Thom to second on a grounder and Mager followed with a two-run double down the right field line.

DePauw took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third as Smart reached and advanced on an error and scored on Montgomery's single. Getz tripled home Montgomery before Godden knocked in Getz.

Abey Bass' RBI single in the fourth scored pinch-runner Sarah Beischer to make it 4-2. Franklin trimmed the lead on Tarver's solo homer in the sixth, but that ended the game's scoring.

Smart and Godden each had two of DePauw's nine hits.
