DePauw Finishes as Regional Runner-Up

Bloomington, Ill. - Host and regional top-seed Illinois Wesleyan scored once in the second and twice in the fourth and held second-seed DePauw scoreless and claimed the regional title with a 3-0 victory over the Tigers.

Julie Josten's leadoff homer in the second provided Illinois Wesleyan with all the scoring it needed. In the fourth, Cassidy Tarpey led off with a walk and moved to second on Katie Caulfield's sacrifice bunt. Maggie Graham doubled down the right field line scoring Tarpey. Tarpey advanced to third on the throw and later score on a passed ball.

The Tigers, who placed at least one runner on base in each of the seven innings, had runners on first and third with one out in the sixth, but couldn't score.

Sammi Bell, Sidney Holler and Ashlee Gibson each had one single for DePauw. Graham paced the Titans with two of their six hits.

Mackenzie Marquis improved to 17-5 with the three-hit shutout. Emma Baldwin dropped to 14-10.

DePauw finished the season at 31-18, while the Titans advanced to the Super Regional with a 33-10 mark.

Marquis was named the tourmanent's Most Outstanding Player. Joining her on the all-tournament team were Mikala Poe (Hanover) Annie Pitkin (Washington), Hera Tang (Washington), Ashlee Gibson (DePauw), Lauren Godden (DePauw), Sidney Holler (DePauw). Danielle Smith (Illinois Wesleyan), Cassidy Tarpey (Illinois Wesleyan) and Julie Josten (Illinois Wesleyan).
