Tigers Survive Elimination with 4-1 Win

Greencastle, Ind. – The DePauw softball team survived an elimination game in the North Coast Athletic Conference Softball Tournament, defeating Denison 4-1 Friday night.

Denison (22-16) is knocked out, while DePauw (27-15) returns at 10 a.m. Saturday to face Ohio Wesleyan, who defeated the Tigers earlier on Friday.

Emma Baldwin (13-9) got the start and the decision in four innings. She gave up one earned run and five hits. Brooke Bandy picked up the save in three innings. She held Denison hitless and walked just one batter.

DePauw first got on the board in the bottom of the second when Sarah Beischer scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Kat Panos singled up the middle to score Gabby Smart.

Denison got one back in the top of the third when Katie Nichols singled to left field to score Maddie Crull.

However, DePauw quickly got that run back when Lauren Godden singled through the right side to score Liz Getz. Getz later scored in the fifth as Haleigh Chasteen hit an RBI single down the left field line.

Getz finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Godden finished 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Chasteen was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Lauren Secaras took the loss in 2.1 innings of work. She gave up three earned runs. Colleen Hoffman relieved her for 2.2 innings of one run baseball before Erin Laswell pitched a scoreless sixth.

DePauw tallied eight hits and committed one error while Denison tallied just five hits on the game.
