The Thunder took a 4-2 lead in the second when Zink was hit by a pitch with two outs and stole second before moving to third on Emily White's single. White stole second before Erica Robles drove in Zink with an infield hit. Robles then stole second and an error on the throw allowed White to score.

In the fourth, DePauw's Katerina Panos and Sidney Holler each singled before Waggoner reached on an error that scored Panos and trimmed the Trine lead to 4-3.

Chasteen reached on a fielder's choice that forced Getz at third. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and Smart followed with a double that scored Godden. Panos singled home pinch-runner Morgan Pigusch and gave the Tigers a 5-4 advantage.

The Tigers tacked on an insurance run in the sixth as Gibson led off with a double and moved to third on Bell's sacrifice bunt before scoring when Button reached on a fielder's choice bunt.
