Tigers Open Season with Loss at Division II Indianapolis

Indianapolis, Ind. - DePauw opened the 2016-17 season with a 187-104 loss at Division II University of Indianapolis. 

Three Tigers picked up wins including Kurt Swieter in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.31), Charlie Stewart-Bates in the 500 free (4:49.79) and Zach Johns in the 200 individual medley (2:04.88).

Kyle Winters was second in the 200 backstroke (2:03.81) as was David Freund in the 500 free (5:05.74), Brandon Sholtis in the 100 butterfly (54.85) and Eli Anderson in the 200 IM (2:08.48).

Stewart-Bates was also third in the 1,000 free (10:08.29) as was Johns in the 200 back (2:06.89), Sholtis in the 50 free (22.06) and Anderson in the 200 back (2:07.09).

Other third-place performances came from Adam Pircon (200 free, 1:48.96), Mitchell Davis (200 breast, 2:15.85), Matthew Netherton (500 free, 5:13.88), Max Steffey (100 fly, 56.10) and Bradley Leftwich in the 200 IM (2:11.46).

Eric Addy was second in three-meter diving with 231.90 points and third on the one-meter board with 231.90.

DePauw's 200 medley relay of Ryan Smith, Sam McManus, Sholtis and Aidan Schurig was third in 1:38.54 as was the Tigers' 200 free relay of Mark Gullickson, Ryan Smith, Swieter, Aidan Schurig in 1:28.68. 

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, October 15, when they compete in the Indiana Division III Invitational at Wabash.
