Strong Start Lifts Tigers to 12-6 Win over Hope

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw scored three times in the opening six minutes on the way to a 12-6 win over visiting Hope at Reavis Stadium. Both teams are now 5-3 on the season.

The Tigers got out to a 3-0 lead with the help of a pair of extra-man goals before Hope reached the board midway through the opening period. The Tigers added one more in the first and outscored the Flying Dutchmen, 3-0, in the second for a 7-1 halftime lead.

Hope closed the gap to 9-6 midway through the fourth, but the Tigers finished the game with three goals in the final 5:56 for the victory.

Steen Jorgensen paced DePauw with four goals, while William Dorger and Ben Sherman added two apiece. Sherman led with two assists. Gunnar Elder led Hope with two goals.

Charlie Robson had eight saves for DePauw, while Nick Schanhals totaled nine stops for Hope. 

The Tigers held a 35-26 edge in shots and 35-30 in ground balls. Eric Speer paced DePauw with seven ground balls and Sean Coyne added six along with six caused turnovers.

Andrew Caris, Nick Bazany and Schanhals each had four ground balls for Hope with Josh Blackburn leading with three caused turnovers.

Hope won 12 of the 21 faceoffs, but DePauw converted on 4-of-5 extra-man chances.

DePauw hosts Wabash on Tuesday, April 4, at 6 p.m.
