Season Preview: Men’s Lacrosse

The DePauw men's lacrosse team will look to improve upon its program-high six wins from 2015 when they open play against Rhodes College at Reavis Stadium on Saturday.

The Tigers were picked to finish seventh in the North Coast Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. Ohio Wesleyan and Denison each received 76 points to top the rankings, with Ohio Wesleyan claiming five first place votes to Denison's four.

The Tigers finished 6-9 overall last year, which included a pair of NCAC victories over Hiram and Wabash. In the game against Hiram, the Tigers scored 28 goals (18 alone in the first half) to break the school single game record of 22.

Junior Eric Speer returns after being named to the All-NCAC honorable mention team for the second-straight season. As a sophomore he totaled 36 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers, five goals and one assist. He appeared in 12 of 15 games and went 3-of-9 in faceoffs.

Andrew Wright and Ben Sherman also return. As freshmen they led the team respectively with 34 and 25 goals. Also coming back is Nick Woerner (22 goals), Sam Alkema (17 goals) and Kyle Roberts (10).

In fact, DePauw returns 90 percent of their scoring last season after scoring 155 goals.

After Rhodes, DePauw comes back on the following Saturday to host Kalamazoo. On March 19, they open NCAC play at home against Kenyon.

Saturday's home contest begins at 1 p.m.
