Greencastle, Ind. -- Led by 20 points and eight rebounds from senior David Vogel, DePauw got back in the win column Friday with a 78-69 victory over Allegheny.
DePauw broke a four-game skid to improve to 8-12 overall and 4-9 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Allegheny dropped their 10th in a row and fall to 5-15 overall and 2-11 in conference play.
Allegheny leading scorer Jordan Rawls, who scored 29 in the Gators' win over DePauw in December, was held to just nine points, all of which came in the second half. Tavian Strobridge came off the bench to lead Allegheny with 16 points. Liam Wilby and Zack Pateras scored 13 each, and Nijon Kirkman added 10.
DePauw shot 43 percent (23-of-54) from the floor, 39 percent (9-of-23) from range and 79 percent (23-of-29) from the free throw line. Allegheny countered with a 48 shooting percentage (29-of-60) and made just six 3-pointers (27 percent) and five free throws (71 percent).
The Tigers started the game off with a 12-2 run highlighted by two 3-pointers from Vogel. Allegheny then brought it to within one at 14-13 midway through the first half.
A Mason Hankins 3-pointer with 24 seconds remaining in the half cut DePauw's deficit going into halftime at 38-36. DePauw then used another solid start to retake the lead 41-40 just 2:30 into the second half.
From there, DePauw never lost the lead and led by as many as 12 with 3:24 remaining.
Allegheny outscored DePauw in the paint 34-24 and off the bench 47-24. However, DePauw outrebounded the Gators 35-32.
DePauw returns to action Saturday when they host Hiram.
