DePauw Defeats Allegheny for Fourth Straight Win

Meadville, Pa. – A balanced scoring attack and some key 3-pointers sent the DePauw men's basketball team to its fourth consecutive win Sunday as they defeated Allegheny, 67-64, in a North Coast Athletic Conference matchup.

The win brings DePauw to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the NCAC, while Allegheny drops to 2-9 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

David Vogel's 17 points led the Tigers. Luke Lattner added 11 points and Adam Botts came off the bench to add 12 points on four 3-pointers.

DePauw shot 42 percent (22-of-52) from the floor with more than half of their shots coming from beyond the arc, where they shot 44 percent (15-of-34). Allegheny shot 40 percent (24-of-59) and 35 percent (6-of-17) from 3-point range.

Thus, Allegheny outscored DePauw in the paint 26-4, but the Tigers' defense held the Allegheny starters to just 14 points.

John Starkey gave the Tigers their largest lead of the game in the first half at 27-19 with 4:13 remaining, but the Gators immediately went on a 14-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at 33-29 with 1:03 left. However, the Tigers were able to tie it by the half at 35 with one second remaining on a 3-pointer from Botts.

The two teams stayed within seven points of each other for the remainder of the game. The Tigers opened the scoring in the second half with a 3-pointer from Vogel and held it for the remainder of the game.

The Gators cut the deficit to just one at 62-61 with 1:08 remaining, but Lattner found Mason Hankins for a big 3-pointer to make it a two possession game with 46 second remaining. Hankins finished with nine points, four assists and three rebounds.

Allegheny hit a 3-pointer with six seconds remaining and fouled Lattner on the ensuing possession. Lattner hit both his free throws, and Allegheny was unable to get another shot off as time expired.

DePauw returns to action 2 p.m. Monday when it travels to Hiram for another NCAC matchup.
