Greencastle, Ind. -- Two of the top three teams of the NCAC battled it out Saturday as Denison came up with a 2-0 win over the Tigers.
The two teams flip postions in the standings, with Denison (9-3) taking a half game lead of second place at 6-2 and DePauw (7-4) falling to third at 5-2.
DePauw's offense was unusually stagnant, especially in the second half where they did not even attempt a shot in the final 35 minutes. In the end, Denison outshot the Tigers 14-5.
The Tigers had their opportunities in the first half, including an open net shot in the ninth minute. Tori Wittemann tried to dribble it in but Denison's Jen Durbin got in front of her and recorded the defensive save.
Both teams entered halftime scoreless, and Denison broke the tie in the 40th minute shortly after a penalty corner. From the top of the circle, Durbin found Ali Gakenheimer in front of the goal, who put it away for her fourth goal of the season.
Denison made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute when Tori Rapillo scored off a deflection.
DePauw keeper Hannah Metzger was dealt her first loss of the season. She is now at 5-1 after making seven saves. Denison's Kerry Lawler made two saves in teh shutout to improve to 6-2.
The Tigers return to action Sunday when they host Wittenberg.
