Tigers Clinch Share of NCAC Title

Granville, Ohio – The DePauw field hockey team clinched a share of the North Coast Athletic Conference title on Sunday after defeating Denison 2-0.

The win followed a 2-1 victory over Kenyon on Saturday, giving the Tigers consecutive wins over the second and third place teams in conference and, in addition, their eighth straight win.

Freshman Kate Milner broke a scoreless tie in the 53rd minute, scoring after deflecting her shot off the cage. Paige Berliner recorded the assist.

Berliner later gave the Tigers a big insurance goal, scoring at 67:52 from about 12 yards out. It halted the Big Red offensive, and it was only the Tigers' fourth shot of the game.

Denison outshot the Tigers 10-4 and took the penalty corner advantage 7-3. Sarah Foye made four saves, and Sofia Carretero recorded a defensive save.

The Tigers move to 14-3 overall and 11-1 in the NCAC. Denison drops to 12-4 and 9-3. The Tigers host Earlham for Play for the Cure night on Wednesday before wrapping up the regular season next Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan.
