Tigers Start Season Off in Big Way

Multi-goal games from three individuals led the DePauw field hockey team to a comfortable 10-1 victory over Hendrix on Saturday.

The Tigers put on a show in their season opener, scoring twice in the first six minutes and leading 7-0 at halftime.

Tori Wittemann, who scored four total goals in 2015, scored three with two coming late in the first half and her other at the 54th minute for DePauw's final goal.

Corina Bourantas set the tone with the game's first goal just 5:10 into the game. Paige Berliner picked up right where she left off last season with the second and third goals of the game.

Freshman Gretchen Bechthold made her presence known, scoring the other two goals in the first half. Reilly Bruce and Addie Ball scored in the second half to round out the DePauw scoring.

Bruce and Sofia Carretero each recorded two assists. Alexa Steil, Erika Bell, Maddy Burds all tallied an assist as well.

Three goalies saw action. Sarah Guendert played the first half and picked up the win after not even seeing a shot on goal. Summer Asad and Sarah Foye split duties in the second half.

DePauw took 42 shots to Hendrix's two. They also had 16 penalty corners. Hendrix goalies made 21 saves.

The Tigers return to action Sunday to face Rhodes.
