Brugman Earns Academic All-America® Honors

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw senior Jonathon Brugman (Lorton, Va./Menwith Hall, England) is one of 42 student-athletes named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division III Football Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Brugman was named to the second team and the entire team is available here.

Brugman is majoring in computer science with a 3.87 cumulative grade point average and is on target to graduate in just three years.

A starting right guard on the Tigers' football team, Brugman earned two varsity letters on the offensive line and was part of DePauw teams that totaled a 24-6 record and the only to win at least eight games in three consecutive seasons.

Brugman has been named to the DePauw Dean's List each of his first four semesters. During the summer of 2017 he served as an undergraduate research intern at University of Connecticut where, among other things, he worked on research that developed access protocols for mobile health applications with FIHR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources). 

A vice president and treasurer of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, Brugman was a recipient of DePauw's Paul S. Jarrett Endowed Merit Scholarship.

In all, DePauw student-athletes have earned 53 Academic All-America® honors since Ike Tallman's selection to the 1958 football team. The complete list of DePauw honorees is available here.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America® honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports. The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
