Tigers Host Denison on Old Gold Day

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw wraps up the home portion of its schedule this Saturday when it hosts Denison in a North Coast Athletic Conference game. Kickoff on Nick Mourouzis Field at Blackstock Stadium is set for 2 p.m.

The Tigers are 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the NCAC after last Saturday's 37-15 loss to Ohio Wesleyan, while the Big Red, ranked 22nd by D3football.com and 24th in the latest coaches' poll, are 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the NCAC following last week's 42-29 win over Allegheny.

Saturday's game is part of Old Gold Day which originated in 1907 and was designed to put a formal stop to scrapping between freshmen and sophomores in the fall. Originally, the day began with an organized scrap between the freshmen and sophomores in the morning, a football game in the afternoon and some sort of dramatic performance in the afternoon. Only later did it become primarily a homecoming day.

This marks the 109th year there's been a football game on Old Gold Day. DePauw teams have posted a 69-36-3 record for a .653 winning percentage. The Tigers have won the last three Old Gold Day games and 30 of the last 35.
