Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw junior linebacker Will Longthorne (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 7 for NCAA Division III. Longthorne was one of eight North Coast Athletic Conference student-athletes to earn the distinction.
Joining him from the NCAC were Kenyon senior offensive lineman Alex Oles, Kenyon senior defensive lineman Nicholas LaPoint, Ohio Wesleyan senior defensive lineman Cameron Pappa, Wabash senior running back Mason Zurek, Wabash junior offensive lineman Kyle Stucker, Wittenberg senior wide receiver Corey Stump and Wooster senior offensive lineman Nick Flannery.
As a first team honoree, Longthorne's name will now be placed on the national ballot where first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be selected later this month.
The Academic All-District™ Team is comprised of just 25 players and Longthorne was one of three linebackers to make the cut. Longthorne has a 3.67 cumulative grade point average, while majoring in economics. On the field, he leads the team with 84 tackles including 54 solos (6.8/game) which ranks 14th in Division III. Earlier this season he was named the NCAC Defensive Player of the Week and selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week for his performance in the September 19 win against Wooster.
This is the fifth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA recognizes four teams - NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-District™ Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools. Previously, CoSIDA recognized a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I); with the four teams, CoSIDA has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored.
