Greencastle, Ind. - Following record-setting seasons, DePauw's Mike Hammel (Westfield, Ind./Cathedral) and Jack Thompson (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) have been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings and D3baseball.com All-Mideast Region second teams. Earlier this month, each earned all-North Coast Athletic Conference First Team accolades.
Hammel was selected as a utility player as he pitched and played first base for the Tigers. The team's leading hitter at .387, Hammel also shared the team lead with Thompson as each clubbed a DePauw single-season record 13 round-trippers. Hammel paced DePauw in slugging percentage (.727) and on-base percentage (.473), was second with 42 RBI and fourth with 38 runs and 10 doubles. On the mound, he led DePauw with six victories for a 6-2 record and a 4.95 earned run average. Hammel shared the team lead with 60 innings pitched and struck out 50.
In addition to sharing the Tigers' single-season homers record, Thompson paced the squad with 56 runs, 72 hits and 57 RBI, while ranking second with a .379 batting average. Thompson shared the team lead with 12 doubles, while his slugging percentage (.689), on-base percentage (.450) and stolen bases (17) all ranked second. His 190 at bats, 56 runs scored and 131 total bases were DePauw single-season records. Thompson finished his career on a school-record 27-game hit streak and hit safely in 42 of the 46 games.
DePauw finished the season with a 33-13 record including a North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament title and a 2-2 record in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional. The 33 wins were the third-most by a DePauw team behind 35 in 2008 and 34 in 2012.
