Senior Mike Hammel (Indianapolis, Ind.) was recently named the North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week following his performance last weekend in a four-game series against Wittenberg.
Limited to pitching duties and no plate appearances in the first game, Hammel finished the series by hitting an astounding .692 (9-for-13) with four home runs and 10 RBI. He recorded seven extra base hits, including two doubles and one triple, for a 1.923 slugging percentage.
In the first game on Sunday, Hammel hit two home runs, including a sacrifice fly in the ninth that ended up being the game-winner. In the final game, he hit a grand slam to cap his weekend.
Hammel leads the team with a .389 average with 10 HR and 33 RBI. His 10 HR has him tied second on the school's single season list.
The Tigers benefitted from Hammel's bat as they took the final three games in the series to improve to 19-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference. They will take on Rose-Hulman on Wednesday before returning to NCAC action Friday against Denison.
