DePauw Keeps Manchester Winless

Indianapolis, Ind. -- In the first of a three game series, DePauw defeated Manchester 3-2 in a game played at Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis.

DePauw received six innings of one-run baseball from starter Mike Hammel who improved to 2-0 on the year after collecting the win. Hammel gave up five hits and struck out seven batters.

Trailing 1-0, DePauw scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take their first lead thanks to a two-run single from Joey Plesac. DePauw then got a much-needed insurance run in the seventh when Max Cohen doubled to lead off the inning and later scored.

Manchester scored one off of the DePauw bullpen in the bottom of the seventh, but Nick Casey came in and held the game intact before Nick Horvath pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save this season.

Plesac, Cohen, Reid Pittard and Jack Thompson all recorded two hits for the Tigers, totaling eight of DePauw's 10 total hits.

The Tigers improve to 6-1, and Manchester drops to 0-5. The two teams square off again Sunday in a doubleheader.
