Millington, Tenn. – DePauw scored six runs in the fifth inning and tallied a total of 14 hits in an 11-4 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday.
Tate Stewart and Jack Thompson each collected four hits, while Ryan Grippo and Reid Pittard each collected a pair. The top three batters in the lineup scored eight of the Tigers runs and went 8-of-14 (.571) with four RBI.
The Tigers scored four runs in the fifth before collecting an out. Grippo and Pittard both hit RBI doubles, while Stewart and Thompson had RBI singles.
Despite the burst and the 8-0 lead after five innings, Mary Hardin-Baylor cut the deficit in half following a four-run top of the sixth inning. Yet, the Tigers continued to hit with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. DePauw then shutout Mary Hardin-Baylor for the final three innings, while adding another run themselves in the bottom of the eighth.
Andrew Quinn (1-0) started and picked up the win in five innings of work. He gave up four earned runs and struck out nine. Tyler Holt, Aaron Miller and Brayden White came out of the bullpen to pitch the final four innings, giving up no runs on just three hits.
DePauw is now 2-0 in the early goings of the season. They conclude their trip in Tennessee tomorrow when they face Rhodes.
